Research interests

My research interest revolves around the biogeochemical processes that drives the metal transformation in soil. I am also interested in the soil organic matter dynamics. My Masters research was on the activity of biochar and its interaction with arsenic and other heavy metals (such as, cadmium, iron, nickel and lead). In that study saw dust, rice husk and rice straw was used as the biochar source and assessed their effectiveness in reducing the phyto-availability of arsenic and other heavy metals corresponding to their biomasses. My current research focuses on iron(II) catalyzed recrystallization process of iron oxide minerals and its effect on the stability of carbon in soil. In this study we are focusing on how the iron(II) catalyzed recrystallization process affecting the iron mineral associated carbon and also the behavior of the minerals. For this study along with different chemical processes we are doing microbial incubation study with Shewanella oneidensis MR 1 to have an overall idea about the process.
